Welcome at the site of the Institute of Fundamental Theology!
The Institute runs two routes:
- FUNDAMENTAL CHRISTOLOGY AND ECCLESIOLOGY
- STUDY OF RELIGIONS
Fundamental Christology and Ecclesiology are recommended for those who want to deepen the foundations of the Christian faith and search for a complex answer to the question: „Why should you believe? Why be a Christian?", the answer that will be able to withstand contemporary challenges and attempts at undermining the truth of the Christian faith and the Church.
Study of religions offers possibilities of researching selected religious traditions of the world (indigenous religions of Africa, Buddhism, Islam, new religious movements), and also Christianity developing in non-European cultures in order to understand them better.
Research on Polish popular religiosity and rituals is also conducted within this route.
There is also a possibility of studying issues of religious pluralism, that challenges Christians to search for an answer to the question about the meaning of other religions in the history of salvation, and above all about the position of Christianity among other religions and the significance of the role of the Church in people's salvation. Giving reasons for the specific and unique status of Christianity in the world of religions is done in close cooperation of the theology of religions with fundamental theology. However, it is done not so much in order to justify Christian claims, as to search for points of convergence between Christianity and other religions, points that form the foundations of interreligious dialogue.
Students are also acquainted with missiological issues, i.e. theology and history of mission, and problems of inculturation.
